Try knitting with tooth picks ,, i did it works for tiny wools ,,

Another way to make a mock cable:
work knits and purls that form the shape. (Look at these diagrams
in Courier or another non-proportional font to see them without
distortions.)

Or you could make a column of knit stitches slant by making
k2tog (that is, dec 1) on the edge and increase (m1) on the
other edge, the way some people are inserting slanted cables
in socks and sweaters in the magazines.
