Sherrie,

If I remember them correctly, there should be a peg marked "Start here" and has an arrow pointing to the peg to start with. If not, then holding your loom with a flat side up (and calling it side A), tie your yarn to what would be the last peg on side F. Bring the yarn around the outside of the pegs to the first peg of side A and make a figure 8 around the peg directly opposite of the first peg (side D). Now take the yarn to the outside and around the next peg (Peg 2 Side A). Continuing wrapping in figure 8's until all sides are wrapped ending at the peg where you started. One wrap completed. Wrap one or two time more if you like. You can change colors and the beginning of the wrap. When you have finished wrapping, tie off yarn. Now for knotting the work. Use a tapestry needle and yarn about 18" long ( you may need more yarn to finish, but that is not a problem) Starting with the first intersection on the first row, leave a short tail (1 inch or so). Holding the tail to the left, insert the needle down through the space at the twelve o'clock position and back up at the space at the six o'clock position. Then down at two o'clock and back up at eight o'clock. Next down at four o'clock, (catching the tail yarn to secure it) and back up at ten o'clock. Work from left to right. Pull yarn to the right and hold it with left hand and begin knotting the next intersection. Finish working around in a spirial ending with the intersection in the middle. Secure the yarn and trim yarn ends. Pop coaster off loom.

Let me know if this helps and if you have any questions, just feel free to ask. : ) My mother and grandmother had these looms and it has been a while since I have made any of these.

Sherrie,

*smacking forehead* I knew I wasn't thinking it right. When doing the knot work, when you go down through the open spaces don't let the yarn go all the way through. Keep back a small loop so that when you come back up on the opposite side you draw up through the inside of the loop and draw up tight with the yarn to secure the knot in place.
