That sounds adorable! The only thing I'd be concerned about is that he
might change his mind before then? So make sure it can be removed in case
that happens! Before I read your idea I was going to suggest finding a
store-bought Oswald patch that you could sew on so that you hadn't invested
too much in it should he change his mind but your idea sounds much cuter :)

Yes, I was thinking of knitting the octopus body as a ball and then
lightly stuffing it, embroidering the face and sewing it tot he top of
the hat with I-cord legs! I think that would be very cute.
I'm actually getting a little excited about knitting this for
him. :-)

Lisa,
If it helps- I just bought a chunky yarn with the color named "Blueberry".
Here is a link:

There are also purples on the same page.

Karlis,
I found this,
http://www.createforless.com/Coats+_and_+Clark+Red+Heart+Super+Saver+4+ply+5oz+Blueberry+Pie/pid77880.aspx?utm_source=shopDT&utm_medium=cse&zmam=1612697&zmas=1&zmac=18&zmap=29096308
It might cover two of your colors, it is cheap and will last much dirt
and many washes. You can also purchase it in the larger super saver size.
Hugs & God bless,
Dennis & Gail

Dennis,
This looks much more "kid friendly" than the yarn I suggested.

Sounds wonderful, but I would put Oscar on the top on the hat, with
his tentacles running down the sides. And, unless your son wants the
stripes on the whole hat, I would just put them in the turned-up rib
section. I always put a turned-up rib section on toques.
Good luck!
Higs,
Katherine
